الوحيد الذي ذُكِر بالاسم في الكتاب المقدس هو ميخائيل (يهوذا 9). والإشارة الأخرى الوحيدة إلى رئيس ملائكة (1 تسالونيكي 4: 16) لم تَذكُر اسمًا له. أما الملاك الآخر المذكور بالاسم في الكتاب المقدس، وهو جبرائيل (دانيآل 8: 16؛ 9: 21؛ لوقا 1: 19، 26)، فلم يُعرَّف بأنه رئيس ملائكة.
