حدث في غير زمانه الصحيح. يتكوَّن مصطلح المفارقة التاريخية من كلمتين يونانيتين، هما ανά ("Ana") أي ضد؛ وχρόνος ("chronos") أي وقت). ويشير إلى خلط أحداث أو أشياء أو أفكار عصر بعصر آخر؛ على سبيل المثال، أن يوصف شخص بلقب أو اسم يرتبط بعصرٍ آخر لاحق لعصره. المفارقة التاريخية هي كل كلمة أو حادث أو تفصيل داخل القصة لا يتناسب مع الفترة الزمنية الخاصة بالقصة. كثيرًا ما تُفهم المفارقات التاريخية باعتبارها توضيحات أو تعديلات أُجريت على النص في وقت لاحق. لاتزامن تاريخي.
