في الفلسفة، أي حدث أو شيء حدوثه مشروط أو متوقِّف على حدث آخر أو شيء آخر . وهذا على عكس الحدث أو الشيء الضروري الذي يحدث أو يوجد على نحو مستقل عن الأحداث أو الأشياء الأخرى. على سبيل المثال، يقول فلاسفة كثيرون إن كل شيء وكل حدث في الخليقة هو مشروط أو متوقِّف على غيره، على النقيض من الله الذي هو كائن ضروري لأنه أبدي ومن ثم لا بد أن يكون موجودًا.
